Here's a picture of the Grids and Grommets Bag being taught on Feb 20th. It also comes in a larger size and you can do it either with Jelly Rolls or just fabric; quilted however you like, gridded, or not.

Happy New Year everyone!!
We trust you had a great Christmas and New Year holiday with lots of time to rest and relax, spend time with family and friends and celebrate the true meaning of the season. We are very thankful for our loyal customers and hope you continue to shop with us this year, too!
I think last time I wrote I mentioned our new HandiQuilter longarm quilting machine. Well... it is up and running and we are excited and having fun with it! We plan to rent it out for those of you who are interested in quilting your own. You must take a class and "join the club" which involves a couple of hours of your time to learn the basics of the machine and try it out. If you have quilted 3 or more quilts on a long arm before, the cost is $40. If you are a novice, and need a little more instruction, the cost is $60. Then, to rent the machine for a quilt, you pay $20 for the first hour which includes needle and thread, and $15/hr after that, to be paid before you start your quilt. We will soon have extra leaders on hand for sale or for rent, so you can pin your quilt on ahead of time and just velcro it onto the pole when you get here - this will save you rental time, and if you miscalculate the amount of time your quilt will take, you can "unvelcro" it, so the next person can use the machine. There will be training on Sat Jan 16th from 8-10 am. If that's a bad time for you, you may be able to work something else out with us.
Other classes coming up...
Party with Patrick! We usually have it the third Tuesday of the month. This month we have to move it up a week, to Jan 12th. Of course, since February is all about Valentines, the project is a LOVE wallhanging. This month, Patrick is having a contest. Stop in & sign up, and get the details. Party starts at 5:00 on the 12th!
BEGINNER CLASS!!! We get lots of requests for beginner classes, so here's your chance! Saturday January 30th Eddy will be teaching a "Turning Twenty" quilt. Now's your chance to jump in and learn. A Turning Twenty is a great, easy quilt to start on, just pick a few fat quarters and Eddy will help you cut and piece them into a beautiful creation. Sign up soon!
Quillows - We've had several requests for that class also. Jackie has perfected Marcia's pattern for a quilt that folds into a pillow. They are great for the airplane, or to keep in the car for your emergency blanket. Just a few fat quarters for that one, also, plus backing and you're done. It's OK for beginners on up. February 6th. I'd better get this off.
Grids and Grommets Bag - February 20th - made with Jelly Rolls/Bali Pops or just quilt your own fabric -the pattern has 2 sizes in each style. The grommets are a snap to put in!
Come in and check out our new Valentine fabric. We also got in some "puzzle mats". Those of you who have asked for them in the past should know what they are (a special type of cutting mat. See you all soon! Maribeth & Jackie and the gang.

Forget Me Knot Quilters Guild Craft Day Photo Collage
Party with Patrick TONITE Tuesday October 20
Hi everyone,
Well, it was a small but fun group at the fall retreat this year up at Taste of Alaska Lodge, but we had a really good time. As one friend stated - good friends, good food, good view and a good amount of work done, too. That's if you call quilting work! For me it was fun!
Anyway, back at the Cow, we are having Party with Patrick tonight. It's a very nice fall wallhanging. Jackie has a sample up on the door, and it is beautiful! Try and make it if you can. We'll be having pumpkin bars and corn chowder. Jackie said she'd try to make the corn chowder vegetarian, since the recipe is pretty close to that anyway, and we can all enjoy it! Save your appetite!
Our next scheduled class is November 7th with Judy Thompson of North Pole (or Fairbanks). She is teaching a quilt as you go quilt (you have 2 choices of patterns) that looks like a really fun method - fun and done, as the pattern states. The method is a little like a rag quilt, so your layers are all done at the same time, and it would be a great way to do a quick baby or kid's quilt.
We've gotten lots of new things in, including more Kaffe Fassett fabric, several new Moda selections that include charm packs and/or layer cakes & jelly rolls, lots of new patterns and books, project totes, gift items, lots of grommets for the grids and grommets bag, etc, etc...
If you haven't gotten all your Great Alaska Shop Hop kits yet, time is running short. It ends October 31st this year, so hurry and get those orders in. It is beautiful and I am having a great time making my blocks. (Except when it's 11:00 pm and I cut something wrong - TWICE! But I got a good sleep and everything was fine in the morning - a lesson relearned)
I think that hits the basics for now, I mostly wanted to remind you about tomorrow night. I hope you all get this, I am getting tired of email problems :S
See you soon,
Maribeth and Jackie

Pops, Rolls, Cakes and Pack - It ON
Hi everyone!
I sure hope this email works better than last time. I have a new theory on how to send it out., so we'll see....
We've gotten lots of new things in the shop, with lots more to come. We got a new Accuquilt GO! cutter in, that we'll be able to play with and make kits, etc, and if you're interested in purchasing one through the shop, we can order one for you. Looks like lots of fun, and a quick and easy way to cut out your quilt!
We got in more Bali Pops, Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes and Charm Packs; new patterns and books; odds and ends of new fabrics (batiks, butterflies, music, and others) There are a lot of new notions and goodies coming, too!
Oh, and if you haven't seen them, Willowbend Creations has come up with some awesome precuts! The main fabric is laser cut for you, so if you don't like to cut out those intricate patterns, or you have some reason that it's difficult for you, here's your ticket! These were made for their retail sales, but we were able to get some to sell to our retail customers. Four different patterns available in different fabrics, all you have to do is choose your background and borders to compliment the precut main fabric, and iron it on!
Classes:
Party with Patrick is October 20th. If you didn't get the last email, Patrick didn't come to Alaska, so we'll have to be content partying without Patrick. I emailed him asking him for a life sized cardboard cutout, or wall poster, and he didn't respond, so maybe he doesn't share our sense of humor (?)
November 7 is a fun new class taught by Judy Thomson. It's a quilt as you go class, so when you're done, you're done!! You have to see it to understand it, I guess, so come in and check out the sample. We'll have the patterns in soon, and it is beginner-friendly.
I think that's all the classes we have scheduled for now, October is pretty busy with the FMKQ guild craft day (Amish wallhangings and hand quilting by Lonnie) and the guild retreat in the middle of the month.
So come in and enjoy our fun fabrics, etc. Remember we are open until 9:00 on Friday nights, and you're welcome to come and join us for sewing Friday nights, too, for just $5.
As always, if you'd like to be removed from the list, just send us an email and let us know.
Thanks, and happy quilting!
Maribeth and Jackie
P.S. Did you know we just had our 6th anniversary? Wow! Time flies when you're having fun!

August Quilting

August quilters came to participate in Friday night open sewing at the shop along with Saturday's FMKQ Craft Day.
Kim Wicklund ponders her quilt completion, gorgeous don't you think? Kit shows off a square that she learned from Joyce during craft day. Ann Toth works on a wonderful t-shirt quilt for her son. Konnie completes her table runner top via class and Arlene is steady working away.
