Beginner Class, Black Friday at the Calico Cow plus Chenille and Pillow Cases

Beginners! Where are all our beginners?? We've had so many requests for a beginner class and now that we're having one, we don't have very many people signed up! It's this Saturday, Nov 19th but it's not too late! The pattern is Turning Twenty and it's taught by Jackie. This is one of the easiest and best patterns to learn on and one of the best teachers to learn from!!! If you want to learn quilting, don't miss this one if you can help it! It's only $20 and includes the book.Saturday Nov 26th is the Chenille class with Kit and Shelly. Their main project is a pillow, but they could also help you with a scarf or another project if you'd like. There are also samples of pillows and scarves here in the shop.
Saturday, Dec 17th is a pillow class with Marcia and there will still be time to get some done before Christmas, or if you just need a creative break from the hectic Christmas season, sign up for this one!
Friday, Nov 25th and Saturday, Nov 26th will be Black Friday and Calico Saturday! Our sale will be 25% storewide (with a few exceptions of course, like consignments, etc. And no punching of punchcards. The usual. ) We can also give you a good deal on a Handi Quilter machine.Saturday Dec 3rd is our Open House and Quilt Gallery! We had so much fun last year! This is the day that several businesses in town have their open houses including Busy Bee and the LIO in this building. We have quilts hanging around in the classroom and the hallway, and everyone enjoys that. Remember, if you have quilts that you'd like to display - they don't have to be fancy, we just need a good amount, and a good variety of styles and sizes- or sell - we lower our consignment fee for this one day event - please let us know by phone (895-9895) or email info@thecalicocow.com. We have a few lined up from our Salcha friends, but would love to have lots of Delta quilts as well! Please let us know as far ahead as you can, so it doesn't wait until the last minute. Thanks!!
I believe that's our schedule for the next month or so. We will be closed on Thurs Nov 24th for Thanksgiving Day, but open the next two days for the sale. Stay tuned for more classes coming up in January!
Here's wishing you speed and accuracy as you finish your Christmas gift projects! Happy Quilting, and Happy Thanksgiving!

October-December Update

Hi everyone!
It's been a while since we sent anything out, so it's time! The snow is here, probably to stay, so it's time to get those quilts done before the busy Christmas preparations begin!

We have lots and lots of new fabric of all sorts! You'll just have to come and see for yourself. I can't begin to tell you all of it. I just know it's all beautiful and there's more coming in every week!

The next class is on November 5th, and it's a chenille class. I'm sure it will be lots of fun making chenille into a pillow, or whatever you want. Kit Benson is teaching it along with Shelly Ward, and they are both so creative, there will be lots of ideas flying around the classroom.

Marcia will be teaching her pillow techniques again on December 17th. This is a great class for new quilters, or seasoned quilters. Make one block or applique' something and make it into a pillow, and BAM you have a project done! Even this close to Christmas you would have time to get some gifts finished!

We may sneak in another class in November, but it is yet to be determined - we'll keep you posted!

We are planning to have an open house again this year on the weekend that many businesses hold theirs. That is usually the first Saturday in December. So mark your calendars for December 3rd, and plan to stop at the Calico Cow again! We had a lot of fun last year, and plan to do the same this year! We'll have door prizes, refreshments, and lots of quilts decorating the shop and the whole hallway!

We are looking for people to display and/or sell their quilts of any size. Please let us know as early as you can that you would like to do this, so we can send you more details. We had so many positive comments from the community last year we would like to make this an annual event, but we can't do it without the help of our favorite quilters!

Don't forget, we are Handi Quilter dealers, so if you're thinking about asking for your very own longarm machine for Christmas, come and see us! We can help you find just the right machine for you! Or take our class and rent the machine to finish your own quilts for those Christmas gifts!

Happy snowday and happy quilting!

FOUR Day COLOR Sale

FOUR DAY COLOR SALE!

What’s that? Two different colors of fabric will be on sale for 20% off each day!

When? This Friday, May 28th, Sat., May 29th, Monday, May 30th and Tuesday, May 31st!

Please stop in to see which colors will be on sale each day, (you can call also).Colors will not be announced ahead of time.

Don’t miss this incredible sale, all fabric store-wide is included, even the brand new arrivals!

Exceptions: Any fabric already on sale.

Speaking of brand new arrivals, we have a LOT of it. We just got a huge shipment of Moda, which includes a ton of fabric and new patterns and new notions, as well as 2 beautiful new bolts of Ty Pennington polar fleece, and if you haven't been in for a few weeks, we have lots of new Alaskana fabrics. You should see the new Black, White and Bright Green prints we have - they are so cool, and we have a bunch of new baby flannel, too.

Also, today, we got in a few Barbara Lavallee "Kuspuks by the yard" tote bags, that will go fast, as well as some fun "Kuspuks by the yard" t-shirts. Hurry and get them before the tourists do!!

We got in the second pattern of our own Gayle Eastwood's Alaska Lighthouse series. We now have Five Finger Lighthouse, and Point Retreat Lighthouse. Come in and see the samples - you'll want to make your own! There will be more on the way.

Since it's such a busy time of year, the only class we have coming up is the Turning Twenty (just got better) class with Marcia on the 4th of June. It's very beginner friendly and uses the very hip Kaffe Fassett fabrics (if you so choose).

We hope you are all enjoying this gorgeous weather, but still finding a little time to quilt!

March, In like a LION

Wow, what a gorgeous day! It gives a person spring fever! Makes you feel so good, you just want to quilt!!! We are so excited about all the classes and events we have coming up! Check out our list:
  • Party with Patrick - New day - Friday! So this Friday, March 11th, at 5:00 PM, we'll have a cute birdhouse wallhanging project, in conjunction with our usual Friday night open sewing. Fun times! And anyone from out of town that can find a place to stay, can join us for Party with Patrick AND stay for the Guild craft day on Saturday.
  • I know this isn't a quilting class, but we are hosting a beading class, taught by Viki Faber on Saturday, March 19th. She's an awesome local artist - you've probably seen her work around town, and at the Starvin' Artists' Holiday Gallery. She'll be teaching us beaded snowflakes that can be hung in a window or used for embellishment on a quilt or other project. She plans to follow with other classes and styles of beading.
  • Beginner classes - since some of you missed out on the guild's beginner class, the Calico Cow will be hosting one with the same awesome teacher, Joyce Bendell. There will be a higher charge this time, but will still be well worth it. April 2nd will be the beginning quilting class, and then there will be a binding and border class on April 30th. Sign up soon, and in order to hold your spot, please pay for your class. If this is as popular as the last one, there may be a waiting list, so please let us know if you won't be able to make it, as soon as you can!
  • Mary Stenros of Willowbend Designs is making a tour around the state, and is coming to Delta to do demos of her methods and show off her new patterns. It is well worth taking the effort to come and hear from the designer on her tips for making her quilts - and it's FREE! Monday night April 11th, we'll have some snacks available if you want to come after work or just come in early for the demo, then start the 2 hour demo at 6:00. Even if you don't think you can do this kind of applique', you don't want to miss it, she makes it easy!
  • And finally, we have a sewing machine repairman coming to Delta! He'll be working on machines from April 29th through May 4th, but drop-off and pick-up can be a few days on either end.For those of us who just can't seem to get around to getting our machines to Fairbanks, this is an awesome opportunity. Mr Streeter works on most any brand of machine, but specializes in Berninas, Singer Featherweights and treadle machines. Call the shop for details, or come and sign up and put down a deposit to confirm.
That's a lot of things going on, and that doesn't include the guild events - craft day this Saturday, Spring Fling the 25th and 26th, and craft day again in April. There should be no bored quilters anywhere in the area!!!

So enjoy the sunny days,
the northern lights at night,
and join us for some quilting fun, too!

Correction on Spring Fling

Welcome to the Calico Cow907/895-9895www.thecalicocow.com

Hi everyone, it was brought to my attention this morning that I posted the wrong date for the Forget Me Knot Quilter's Guild Spring Fling. It is actually March 25th and 26th, not March 18th and 19th. Sorry about that!

February and March plus SaLeS

  • January is over - YAY!! The days are getting longer, and the weather hasn't been too bad around here, so there's hope for spring.
  • We have a lot going on in the next month or so! First off is Party with Patrick, Tues, Feb 15th 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Everyone who comes gets a free gift courtesy of the Warm Company, the batting company that makes Warm and Natural, and Insul-Bright and those wonderful products. I think it's a very awesome gift, and there's enough for 20 people !! The project is a small shamrock tablemat, perfect for March.
  • On Feb 19th, Marcia will be teaching a "magic block". There are samples and supply lists at the shop - It's a beautiful block made in a very interesting way - stop by and see the samples!
  • February 26th is a Mystery Quilt with Joyce made with strips - the precut 2 1/2" strips are a great way to go!! You won't know what you're making until you're done with the quilt - hence the "mystery". So you can't come and see the sample, but mysteries are always a lot of fun! Come and join us!
  • The Quilt Guild has a lot coming up, too! Feb 12th is Alaskana applique' with Marcia.
  • March 5th is a beginner class with Joyce (which is full, but we are taking names in case of cancellation - sign up at the store),
  • March 12th is a needle case with Christy.
  • March 18th and 19th is the Spring Fling!
Don't forget to come in and VOTE for your favorite item for the challenge quilts - only two entries, so it's just a matter of who gets the bigger prize!! Anyone who makes a $10 purchase can vote on the back of their sales slip, through National Quilting day, March 19th.

If you haven't been in to see our $7.99 fabric selection in the classroom, we're sweetening the pot! Starting on Saturday, it will be $5.99, and if you empty the bolt, it will be $4.99!!!! Help us make room for new fabric! Speaking of which, we have new wide flannel backings, some new batiks, baby flannels, a really cute doggie panel called Pound Hound, and some beautiful wildflowers from Moda! If you haven't been in for a while, there's even more!!
*************************************************************************************************************************
Handi Quilter is giving an awesome deal on their new "Sweet Sixteen" sitdown machine - On orders placed between Feb 4th and Mar 7th, you can get a "GO! Baby Fabric Cutter starter set (a $326 value) for FREE! See the attachment for a picture of this beautiful machine. This is an even more affordable and compact way to get into a machine with longarm capabilities. Come in and talk to us.

Lots of fun things to do around here these days - Come in and join us for the fun.
