"Help Us Help You Sale"

We trust you all had a Merry Christmas, filled with lots of time with family and friends, and hopefully a few quilting goodies in your stocking (?)
First off, a bit of "housekeeping". We only use this email for the newsletter, so if you want to send us something, please use our info@thecalicocow.com email address, unless we request you to use this one. Thanks so much!
OK, back to the good stuff! We are having a "Help us help you" sale - on-going until we decide otherwise - a selected group of fabrics are marked down to $7.99! There's quite a pile back in the classroom, so come on in and check it out! We've gotten notice that cotton prices are going up significantly, so now's the time to take advantage of a really good price! So you're helping us help you by clearing out some inventory so we can order more before the prices go up.
I was hoping to have a class schedule made up for the next couple of months by now, but it hasn't happened. I do know that Viki Faber has been asked by several people to teach a beading class and she wants to do that here sometime in January. Once we get that nailed down, we'll be able to schedule other things around that. She wants to teach a beaded snowflake (sounds really cool!!) for the first class, and maybe do other more involved things after that. We have a beginner class or two in the works, and I'm planning to teach the "Purse-o-nality X Four" bag class again. Party with Patrick for January is a table runner with hearts on it - a bit of a departure from the usual wallhangings, and a bit bigger. Should be fun. That will be Tuesday, January 18th, at 5:00 pm.
We have been getting new fabrics and notions right along, so if you haven't been in for a while, stop by! We have the Dr Suess fabrics we had been waiting for, some really cute Girlie Girl baby flannels, and some new notions, books, and patterns are here, or will be soon!
I am quite sure there is something I am forgetting, but I want to get this email off, so you're all aware of the sale! There may be another email coming your way soon. Meanwhile, the sooner you come in, the better the selection! AND.... we WILL be open til 9:00 on New Years Eve! Some of us don't have anything exciting going on, so what better thing to do than get together with friends and quilt?!? We will be closed on Sat Jan 1st, though.
And if you've been having thoughts of a new HandiQuilter rolling around in you're head, now's the time to get one! We're doing a 10% off MSRP sale all of December, and if you're serious, we could extend that another week for you. Handi Quilter has financing too, so you don't have to come up with the whole thing at once. If you don't have money or space for a big machine, they have a new version of their sitdown machine called the Sweet Sixteen - very affordable! Come in and talk to us!
Thank you all for your continued loyalty and business throughout 2010. We appreciate every one of you!

We got this from our friends at Handi Quilter, and wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving as well!

Monday, November 22, 2010

Yes, we're having an Open House this year, combined with a Quilt Gallery! We'll have quilts hanging around the shop, classroom and hallway for you to look at, be inspired by, and possibly even buy. Saturday, Dec 4th is the day we'll be having it, along with several other local businesses, and the Christmas Bazaar at the school. It's a fun day to get out and socialize and get some great shopping done in Delta!

We'll have special beginner packages for tools, and for upcoming beginner classes, so if you or someone you love wants to learn to quilt, this would be an awesome time to put that on your Christmas list and make it happen!
There will be coupons, drawings, and of course yummy goodies! We'll also be having a sale that whole week on everything Moda! For anyone that doesn't know, Moda is many quilters' favorite manufacturer of fabric. It will be really fun finding all your favorite Moda fabrics to buy on sale!
We have a couple of classes coming up before Christmas - November 27th (Thanksgiving weekend) Sandi is teaching Batik Illusions. It's a beautiful quilt with a chevron look, made out of one piece of fabric. We're hoping Sandi can get a sample in to the shop soon, so we can all be inspired - it's beautiful!!
Party with Patrick for December will be one week early, on Dec 14th, rather that the 21st, because we decided that was just too close to Christmas for everyone. We haven't gotten the sneak peek at that project yet, but I'm sure it will be something fun for New Year's or January in general. They're always fun.
Of course a REALLY awesome Christmas gift would be your very own Handi Quilter longarm quilting machine. Look for a special on those, too! There's a new version of the HQ Sixteen sit-down model that looks really nice! It's more like your regular machine, you sit down to use it, and it's much more compact and affordable than the large ones.
For those of you interested in our Design a Quilt challenge - the deadline has past, with no entries! :( So.... good news, you now have until after the holidays to finish your creations! We decided to allow you plenty of time with no rush before Christmas, and give you until the 15th of January to turn in your entries! Then they will be judged and the winners will be drawn on National Quilting Day, March 19th, 2011. See the rules below:

7th Anniversary and PFD SALE

Hello everyone, hope you are having a nice fall. We've had a few flakes falling but nothing serious. So far, so good! But it's time to start thinking of your winter projects, and we're giving you a great opportunity to save some money:
Since we just hit our 7th anniversary, and it's PFD time, we are having over a week of savings, from October 8th through the 16th. That includes two Saturdays, for anyone who can't make it during the week! We'll be having 30% off LOTS of selected items. Lots of "only one or two left", and "it's just been around too long" sort of stuff, as well as Novelty/conversation prints, 30s reproduction, scenery background, and even Kaffe Fassett fabrics! If you've been just dying to have one of our commercially made Amy Butler bags, those are on sale, too! We'll have most of the notions and books gathered together on sale tables, and don't forget to check out our 50% off books and $3.99 fabric trunk.
Discounts cannot be combined, and punchcards cannot be punched on sale items
We have some classes coming up, too.
Eddy is teaching her Log Cabin tree skirt on October 30th. It's just beautiful! And because it's a log cabin pattern, it's not hard, so it could be beginner friendly ( I haven't asked her if she'll take beginners, but we can check with her).
Party with Patrick is as always on the 3rd Tues of the month, October 19th. This one is called "the Sky is Falling" and is of course anacorn wallhanging! Cute!
Sandi is teaching the Batik Illusion quilt made with a special Robert Kaufman stiped batik fabric that we only have enough for a few quilters. It is really gorgeous! She is teaching this on the 27th of November.
By demand, I'm teaching the Purse-o-nality Times Four bags that you may have seen me working on occasionally over the last few weeks, as I had time. The date I'm looking at right now is November 6th. There are four bags, and I'll help you get through whichever one you'd like, and then that should have you familiar enough with the directions that you can do the other three on your own.
Marcia is up for teaching a version of the Turning Twenty that she made using the Kaffe Fassett fabrics. We haven't nailed down a date yet, though, but let us know if you're interested. All the more reason to check out the sale this next week on the Kaffe fabrics.
Speaking of bags, we just got the most gorgeous line of zippers in, that are targeted towards bags, but could be used for about anything. They are 14" zippers, in a rainbow of colors, and are just $.99 each. You can cut them down to any smaller size you like, and just zigzag across wherever you want the end to be. If you need something longer, we have zippers by the inch in some basic colors.
We've been getting in a variety of fabrics and notions, books and patterns, etc, etc., so come in for the sale if not before, and check out all our new stuff, There's a new waterproof fabric to make diaper covers/reusable diapers with, (and we have the patterns). Lots of new apron and vest patterns for the upcoming FMKQ craft day, We got a big mixed order from Moda, that has a little bit of everything, so just browse the aisles and see what's new!
Don't forget we are Handi Quilter dealers, so if you're thinking of buying a longarm machine, come and talk to us! And, if you'd love to do your own quilts, but have nowhere to put a machine,we can train you to use the machine, so you can rent ours! I'm sure it will get busier as we get closer to Christmas, so if you have something ready to go now, you might want to schedule a time, soon. (Watch for specials that HandiQuilter runs on the machines and tables, periodically, too!)
Well, stay warm and cozy while you're dreaming up your winter projects, then come in and let us help you make them happen!
See you soon!

FIREWEED

Hi, and happy spring everyone. It's a little cloudy today, but May is just around the corner!
Just wanted to give you a quick update. Mostly, I needed to remind you about tonight's Party with Patrick. I know it's horribly short notice, but if you get this in time, just come on in - 5:00 or whenever, don't worry about not signing up ahead of time. The project is a really cute butterfly candlemat, In a moment of creative inspiration, I made my butterflies 3-D, and they are extra cute if I do say so myself. (everyone else is telling me that, so I might as well agree!) Patrick's recipes this month are a grilled chicken with fruit salad, and a strawberry dessert.
I don't think we have any other classes planned for the shop, but the guild has lots of activities coming up. Quilting Buds on May 1st, and 2 craft days in May. May 8th is a quilt using your 2 1/2" strips - jelly rolls or bali pops, or cut your own. Then on May 22, we're making special dolls for sending overseas to children in need.
Here's a big FYI - we got "the Fireweed fabric" by Hoffman back in. Everyone loves it, so if you've been waiting to replenish your supply, come on in! We've still been getting more wonderful fabric in on a regular basis, so if you haven't been in for a while, you need to get here!
Longarm classes are always available. Jackie can teach them, usually on Monday late afternoons, or Saturday morning before the store opens. And remember that we are authorized reps, if you'd like to buy one. Handi Quilter is an awesome value for an awesome machine!
We'll keep you posted on classes as we get them scheduled. It seems there's something I'm forgetting, so I'll let you know if I remember. :)
Hope to see you soon. Remember, if you'd like to get ahold of us by email, please use our info@thecalicocow.com address. And as always, if you'd like to be removed from this mailing list, just let us know.

Freezer Paper Paper Piecing

Fellow quilters,
Found this neat link through a sewing list I belong to. Wanted to share it with you. You might want to put it in your newsletter. http://www.twiddletails.com/store/index.php?main_page=page&id=21
Really puts a new twist on paper piecing and if you run the freezer paper through your printer you'll really be ahead of the game. You can cut the freezer paper to 81/2 by 11 to fit your printer. Just remember to print on the dull side.

Annette

  • Hey everyone - can you believe this weather? Awesome, huh?!? And April is almost here, so it's just going to get better, right? Speaking of April, we are planning an April Fool's Day sale, which will run from April 1st through the 3rd (that's this Thursday through Saturday).

  • It's buy three get one free! You can buy 3 of any one thing and get the fourth free. For example, 3 pre-cut fat quarters - get the fourth free; 3 books - get the fourth free; 3 yards of one fabric- get the fourth free; 3 scissors - get the fourth free; you get the picture. We have SO many new bolts of fabric since the beginning of the year, I think we lost track at over 100, so it's probably over 150 by now!

  • So if you haven't been in lately, you have to come in and check it out. We have LOTS of new batiks, LOTS of new kid prints like Veggie Tales and Paddington Bear, baby prints, new panels including a cloth book panel, and so much more, I can't name it all!

  • Classes: Our monthly Party with Patrick is coming up Tuesday April 20th at 5:00, a cute butterfly candle mat. Pam Rule will be teaching a fast, easy, beginner-friendly pattern called "Strips and Ladders" soon. I think it's set for April 17th, so call the shop for details. We're still hoping for another kuspuk class from Lonnie.... Come in and see us soon!

Thanks for shopping with us!

Hi everyone!
Why is it that every time of year seems like a busy time of year? You'd think that the beginning of March wouldn't be too busy, but of course it is, and here I am trying to get an email out in time for you to get the information in time!!

So the most important thing is the SALE coming up this next week! Wed March 10 thru Wed March 17 we'll be having 20% off all fabrics! This includes pre-cut fat quarters - not cut-while-you-wait fat quarters - but otherwise there's a half-yard minimum cut to get the sale. Other exclusions are the sale trunk, and there's no punch cards punched on sale items.

Another promotion going on is on our Handi-quilter longarm machines. If you've been waiting for a good time to buy one, now is the time! Handi Quilter is giving you FREE SHIPPING if you order between now and April 4th, and it's shipped by April 30th.

Speaking of longarm quilting, we have an upcoming class on March 20th for anyone who has taken our beginner training on our machine. Shana Clay will be down from North Pole to teach us some good tips and techniques.Shana is a wealth of information!

This weekend is the guild's Spring Fling, if you haven't heard! Sounds like it's gonna be a great time PLAYING with threads and fabric! The theme is Playtime :) March 27th will be the guild's second March craft day, doing the applique' on a wonderful tote that we'lll finish on April 10th. Eddy will be teaching it.

The following Tuesday (the 16th) is our Party with Patrick. The theme is Go Fly a Kite, so you can imagine the cute wallhanging we'll be making. I think, though, that the wind we've been having lately has been a bit much for a kite! Whew!

We'll let you know what else is coming up for April & beyond. Remember - March 20th is National Quilting Day! Make sure you celebrate quilting this month, and enjoy every minute of it!

Happy New Year everyone!!
We trust you had a great Christmas and New Year holiday with lots of time to rest and relax, spend time with family and friends and celebrate the true meaning of the season. We are very thankful for our loyal customers and hope you continue to shop with us this year, too!
I think last time I wrote I mentioned our new HandiQuilter longarm quilting machine. Well... it is up and running and we are excited and having fun with it! We plan to rent it out for those of you who are interested in quilting your own. You must take a class and "join the club" which involves a couple of hours of your time to learn the basics of the machine and try it out. If you have quilted 3 or more quilts on a long arm before, the cost is $40. If you are a novice, and need a little more instruction, the cost is $60. Then, to rent the machine for a quilt, you pay $20 for the first hour which includes needle and thread, and $15/hr after that, to be paid before you start your quilt. We will soon have extra leaders on hand for sale or for rent, so you can pin your quilt on ahead of time and just velcro it onto the pole when you get here - this will save you rental time, and if you miscalculate the amount of time your quilt will take, you can "unvelcro" it, so the next person can use the machine. There will be training on Sat Jan 16th from 8-10 am. If that's a bad time for you, you may be able to work something else out with us.

Other classes coming up...
Party with Patrick! We usually have it the third Tuesday of the month. This month we have to move it up a week, to Jan 12th. Of course, since February is all about Valentines, the project is a LOVE wallhanging. This month, Patrick is having a contest. Stop in & sign up, and get the details. Party starts at 5:00 on the 12th!

BEGINNER CLASS!!! We get lots of requests for beginner classes, so here's your chance! Saturday January 30th Eddy will be teaching a "Turning Twenty" quilt. Now's your chance to jump in and learn. A Turning Twenty is a great, easy quilt to start on, just pick a few fat quarters and Eddy will help you cut and piece them into a beautiful creation. Sign up soon!

Quillows - We've had several requests for that class also. Jackie has perfected Marcia's pattern for a quilt that folds into a pillow. They are great for the airplane, or to keep in the car for your emergency blanket. Just a few fat quarters for that one, also, plus backing and you're done. It's OK for beginners on up. February 6th. I'd better get this off.

Grids and Grommets Bag - February 20th - made with Jelly Rolls/Bali Pops or just quilt your own fabric -the pattern has 2 sizes in each style. The grommets are a snap to put in!

Come in and check out our new Valentine fabric. We also got in some "puzzle mats". Those of you who have asked for them in the past should know what they are (a special type of cutting mat. See you all soon! Maribeth & Jackie and the gang.
